18s Place 7th at County Cup

May 9– San Diego, CA

The second weekend in May saw Northwest Water Polo Club (Seattle, WA) high school boys teams traveling south to San Diego to compete against some of the top club teams from southern California.  18u A and 18u B boys teams competed in the tournament and both squads battled hard all weekend against some of great competition. The tournament was highlighted by the 18u A boys 7th finish.

Saturday’s first game had the 18u A team matched up against Commerce  (Commerce, CA). The boys went up early and held onto to the lead to secure a 15-6 win to start the tournament off strong. Game two against CHAWP (Chino Hills, CA) was a back-and-forth affair that came down to the wire. Unfortunately, the squad came up short 7-8 to end day one with a 1-1 record. Saturday morning against Chargers (Los Angeles, CA) the team started off slow and couldn’t quite catch up, dropping the match 6-11. In their final match of the tournament the team came up against North Irvine (Irvine, CA) and put together a solid team performance to win the game 12-8.  Over the weekend the 18u A team posted a 2-2 record and finished the tournament in 7th place.

Northwest 18u B had a rough first game on Saturday, dropping their match against NSD Stars (San Diego, CA) 19-2. Game two against San Diego Shores Gold (San Diego, CA) told a similar story as the boys ran out of gas in the second half to end the game 4-15. Sunday morning the team put together a tough performance but came up short against Southern (Las Palmas, CA) 4-12.  In their last game of the tournament the squad came alive against CHAWP on offense but couldn’t keep up, wrapping up game four with a 12-17 loss.

Congratulations to both Northwest teams on representing Seattle and Washington with some great effort over the weekend. NWPC teams will be back in action at a mini tournament June 1-3 (location TBD).
