18u Boys Bring Home Another Gold Medal. Northwest Water Polo Club Sends 6 Teams to Turbo Cup.

Over the weekend of March 2-3 2024, Northwest Water Polo Club competed in Turbo Cup hosted in Irvine, CA. Northwest traveled in impressive numbers, bringing a total of 6 teams and competing against high-level water polo teams from California.


12u CoEd Division:

The 12u CoEd Division saw Northwest facing formidable opponents. The team faced a challenging start against LAWPC and CMAC, experiencing tough defeats. Despite the setback, Northwest showcased resilience and determination, learning from each match.

In a thrilling turn of events, Northwest's 12u CoEd team engaged in a neck-and-neck battle with Sand Canyon, ultimately securing a 14.3-14.1 victory in a shootout. The tournament concluded on a high note with a hard-fought 10-9 victory against Pacific, showcasing the team's growth and potential.


14u Girls Division:

Northwest's 14u Girls team faced a diverse range of opponents. The team kicked off with an impressive 8-4 victory against SD, displaying skill and coordination. However, facing tough competition from Back Bay United and Channel Islands, Northwest came up short-handed in the next two games.

The team had a back-and-forth battle in their final match against Palos Verdes, securing a close 6-5 victory. The win highlighted the tenacity of the 14u Girls team and left a positive note to build upon in future competitions.


14u Boys Division:

The 14u Boys Division witnessed Northwest facing strong adversaries. Despite a 9-3 loss to Trojan and a 10-2 defeat against Odin, the team bounced back with an 8-4 victory over South Bay. The final match against South Coast ended with a 9-4 defeat, but the team's efforts showcased their competitive spirit and potential for growth.


16u Boys Division:

In the 16u Boys Division, Northwest faced intense competition, navigating a challenging tournament with determination. The team secured a convincing 14-3 victory against V-United but experienced close defeats against OCWPC (10-13), Del Mar (13-14), and SET (8-11). The competitive matches demonstrated the team's skill and provided a valuable learning experience.


18u Boys Division:

The 18u Boys Division witnessed Northwest delivering standout performances. The team secured a dominant 19-6 victory against Murrieta Valley in their first game but came up short against BOA in their following game. Not to be deterred, Northwest bounced back in full force and picked up a controlling 17-12 win against Chargers. In the gold medal final, Northwest faced a redemption match against BOA. Despite a tightly contested first half, Northwest managed to pull away in the second half, securing a 11-6 win and bringing home the first-place medal in the platinum bracket. Congrats to the success of the 18u boys.


18u Girls Division:

The 18u Girls Division featured Northwest engaging in intense battles. Playing the majority of the tournament with no subs, the team secured a victory with a score of 13-11 against Channel Islands. Despite setbacks against Mountain Zone, Patriot, Charger, and Elite, the team's resilience and ability to keep games close in the face of adversity showcased their competitive spirit.
